The Iona Gaels have canceled the remainder of their men’s basketball regular season schedule due to COVID-19. The college announced another Tier 1 member of the team tested positive and due to required quarantine and isolation protocols, the team will not have the required number of players to compete for the remainder of the conference season.

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference starts its conference tournament on March 8. The MAAC requires teams have played 13 games to be eligible for the conference tournament. Iona just played their 13th game and is 8-5 overall, 6-3 in conference.

Iona is currently in second place, a game and a half back of the Siena Saints for the top spot. However, the conference will be seeding based on number of wins rather than win percentage. This will drop Iona down the bracket. Their are currently five teams with more conference wins than Iona and three with the same number of conference wins.
