The America East Conference Championship stretches from February 27th to March 13th this year. The conference announced a new seeding format for 2021 where the semifinalists will be decided with pod play with games taking place at UNH and Hartford. The conference championship game will then take place at the highest remaining seed’s home court on March 13.
The tournament will include nine teams and kick off with a series of pod games to determine the four semifinalists. Each round will see the advancing teams reseeded with the highest seed matching up against the lowest remaining seed. UMBC and Vermont have secured their spots in the semifinal round, having each secured a first-round bye.
The America East tournament will air across the ESPN network of channels. ESPN3 and ESPN+ will air the first three rounds of the tournament, up through the semifinals. ESPN2 will air the championship game.
UMBC and Vermont split the regular-season conference title finishing out as the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, respectively. They both finished the year with a 10-4 record, finishing the season with a two-game series against one another. They split the series and each won a bid to the semi-finals of the America East Conference tournament. UMBC currently ranks No. 156 in Ken Pomeroy’s ratings and No. 126 in the NCAA’s NET rankings. Vermont ranks No. 120 in the Pomeroy ratings and No. 101 in the NET rankings.
