Because it’s 2021 and schedules are catch-as-catch-can, the No. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs are off to Stockton, California tonight to take on the Pacific Tigers in a West Coast Conference battle. This game was officially announced yesterday.

The Zags are a force of nature in college basketball: No. 1 in the polls, 17-0 overall, and no team in the WCC has come closer than losing by 14 points. Their eFG of 61% is the best in college basketball, they don’t shoot a ton of threes so they stay consistent across teams, and they have Drew Timme and Jalen Suggs for about 20 more games before he heads to the NBA Lottery. They’re a nightmare.

Pacific lost to this Gonzaga team 95-49 in Spokane on January 23rd. The Tigers are rebuilding under Damon Stoudamire, and are just 5-4 this season because of a long bout with COVID-19. Guard Daniss Jenkins is a nice player to build around, but there’s just not enough depth or talent to stay in this one. It’s not if they’ll lose this game, it’s by how much, but the future is bright for a program that’s recruiting well and will be liberal in the transfer portal.

The Best Bet

Without a lot of time to prepare, you’d have to think both teams wouldn’t be able to make too many adjustments. The Zags won the matchup in The Kennel by 46, and there’s no reason to think they can’t name their score here.

Pick: Gonzaga -23.5
