On Sunday evening, the final game of the 2020 NFL season will place between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 55. This is a rematch from Week 12 of the regular season when the Chiefs won 27-24. In that game, it was an aerial attack between Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady.
Neither ground attack was exactly special in that game as the Chiefs only had 87 rushing yards and Bucs had 75 rushing yards. But since Week 12, the Bucs have seen Leonard Fournette establish himself as the lead running back, while the Chiefs will have Clyde Edwards-Helaire back in the backfield with Mahomes.
Here, we’ll take a look at the odds on DraftKings Sportsbook for Player to have the Most Rushing Yards and our favorite pick.
Current odds for rushing leader
Leonard Fournette, Bucs: +175
Ronald Jones II, Bucs: +275
Darrel Williams, Chiefs: +325
Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Chiefs: +400
Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs: +1400
Le’Veon Bell, Chiefs: +1600
Tyreek Hill, Chiefs: +2500
LeSean McCoy, Chiefs: +3300
Ke’Shawn Vaughn, Bucs: +3300
Mecole Hardman, Chiefs: +3300
Darwin Thompson, Chiefs: +5000
Tom Brady, Bucs: +25000
The pick
My favorite: Leonard Fournette
Looking at both teams rosters and respective defenses, I’d lean towards Fournette as my favorite for most rushing yards in Super Bowl 55. Playoff Lenny has been the best running back in the postseason, averaging 70.3 yards per game and 4.4 yards per carry.
This season, the Chiefs are giving up 122.1 rushing yards per game and in the postseason have allowed 120.5 rushing yards per game. For the Bucs to have a chance to upset the Chiefs, it starts with them establishing the run with Fournette.
My sleeper: Clyde Edwards-Helaire
If he’d played better or showed any burst since arriving in Kansas City, Le’Veon Bell would be a tremendous sleeper pick. But for this sleeper selection, I’m going to pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Helaire made his return to the football field in the AFC championship game after missing the previous five weeks due to injury. In their Week 12 matchup, CEH rushed for 37 yards on 11 carries, which doesn’t sound encouraging. Then, on top of that, the Bucs’ run defense has only allowed 80.6 yards this season. But we saw in last year’s Super Bowl what a Chiefs running back could do. Do not be surprised to see Edwards-Helaire excel in that role again.
