Houston Rockets forward Christian Wood has looked like their best player this year, but the big man could miss some time in the coming weeks. Wood reinjured his right ankle on Thursday against the Memphis Grizzlies and will be evaluated weekly for the sprain he suffered, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Wood has already been ruled out of Saturday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs.
Wood is averaging career highs in points (22), rebounds (10.2), and blocks (1.5) per game. He’s also been extremely efficient shooting the basketball. He’s shooting 55.8% from the field s and is converting 42.1% of his shots from beyond the arc. His absence will be felt by Houston on both ends, and the Rockets don’t have much depth at center.
DeMarcus Cousins has flourished with Wood out of the picture and could be poised to move back into the starting lineup. He should get a massive bump in playing time while Wood is on the mend.
