Mecole Hardman experienced a full redemption narrative arc during the AFC Championship Game. His muffed punt in the shadow of the goal line put the Kansas City Chiefs into a quick 9-0 hole versus the Bills. But Hardman kept his head up, scored on the Chiefs’ next possession, and then tore off a 50-yard run soon after to set up another KC TD. The Chiefs rolled from there. Putting some faith in that big-play ability and banking on Hardman to come through on a couple of prop bets may not be a bad move.
Mecole Hardman, Player to have most rushing yards (+3300)
Hardman has all of six carries this season, but if he repeats that 50-yard reverse this Sunday, that may be all he needs to lock up this prop. The Chiefs’ backfield is a two-man operation right now with Darrel Williams and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Le’Veon Bell appears to be on track to return from a knee injury, which would muddle that picture further. Tampa Bay allowed the fewest rushing yards to RBs during the regular season, so if Kansas City wants to move the ball on the ground, they will have to get creative. Of course, the Bucs will now be on high alert for that reverse, but Hardman’s ridiculous speed may still win out. He probably won’t get more than one carry, but that could be enough. I’ll note here that the +1200 line on Hardman to record the game’s longest rush is also worth consideration.
Mecole Hardman, Score a touchdown and player’s team wins (+350)
The payoff here isn’t nearly as handsome, but that’s fine. Again, with a player such as Hardman, you’ve got a big play — or perhaps a long touchdown — just waiting to happen. He has scored six times this season, and he didn’t play more than half of the offensive snaps in four of those six games. Plus, the Chiefs must remember the missed opportunity they had with Hardman when they visited the Bucs back in Week 12. Lining up out of the left slot, Hardman got wide open down the seam against Tampa Bay’s defense and if not for a poor throw from Patrick Mahomes, Hardman would have notched a 90-yard TD. He did score on a quick screen from just three yards out against Buffalo two weeks ago, so he can work in close quarters, too.
