The Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set to face off for the second time this season in Super Bowl 55, and this game could feature some impressive quarterback play. Tom Brady has been on the final stage plenty of times in his lengthy career, and he’s up against an opponent he’s had a lot of success against this year, despite not getting a ton of production from his wide receivers. How will things pan out in round two?
Brady threw for 345 yards and three touchdowns with two picks in his first matchup against the Chiefs. His leading pass catcher was surprisingly Rob Gronkowski, who surprisingly tallied six receptions for a season-high 106 yards. Chris Godwin was right behind Gronk with eight catches for 97 yards while Mike Evans scored two touchdowns despite hauling in just three passes. There’s no telling player will take Tampa Bay’s offense over the top.
Here, we’ll track Brady’s performance throughout the game.
Brady didn’t stretch the field much but was 21-of-29 passing for 201 yards and three touchdowns. He was sacked just once in the game en route to his seventh Super Bowl victory. He didn’t need to utilize his stars out wide to come away with a desirable result. He took home the MVP hardware as well.
Update After 3Q
Brady has been extremely efficient and has completed 20 of his 26 passing attempts for 195 yards and three touchdowns. Gronkowski has been his most consistent target, while Evans and Godwin have been afterthoughts. Tampa Bay is running away with the game and holds a 31-9 lead.
Brady kicked off the second quarter with a 31-yard completion to Mike Evans and nearly capped off his first drive of the quarter with a big man touchdown pass to offensive lineman Joe Haeg. Tampa Bay took advantage of its next possession, though, as Brady threw another touchdown to secure a 14-3 lead. Brady followed that up by finding Brown on a short pass to amass a 21-6 lead at the break. He’s 16-of-20 passing with 160 yards and three scores.
Update After 1Q
Brady kicked off the game with a quick three and out. He completed one pass to Chris Godwin for a yard. He completed a second pass to Cameron Brate for five yards before his second drive fizzled out. Brady finally moved the chains more than once on his third drive and tallied four more completions. He finished the drive with an eight-yard completion to Rob Gronkowski. Brady is 6-of-7 passing for 50 yards with one score. Jones only has one touch so far. The Bucs lead 7-3.
