The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are your Super Bowl 55 champions. The Bucs defense stifled the Chiefs all night long and Tom Brady was able to find Rob Gronkowski twice. Add in a solid performance by the Bucs ground game and Tampa dominated most of the night in a 31-9 victory. It was enough for the underdog Bucs to win outright and the game came in under the point total.
The Bucs opened as 3.5-point favorites but settled as a field goal dog by kickoff. The point total opened at 57.5 but dropped to 56 by kickoff. The Bucs opened as +140 dogs but closed at +138. The Chiefs opened as -175 favorites but closed at -157.
In spite of two teams that seemed well-matched, none of the notable odds were ever really in doubt after the first quarter. It was a slow start, with three punts to open the game and setting us on course for the under cruising to victory. The slow start meant that even a 17-point outburst in the second quarter was not going to be enough.
Tom Brady finished the game with 201 passing yards and three touchdowns. Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones combined for 150 yards and a touchdown. Rob Gronkowski led the team with six receptions for 67 yards and two touchdowns.
Patrick Mahomes threw for 266 yards, but had no touchdowns and two interceptions and just struggled to do much of anything most of the night. Shaq Barrett and Ndamukong Suh each sacked Mahomes, and he was knocked down eight times on the night. The Chiefs averaged 6.3 yards per carry on the ground, but the passing game just could not get it going.
