Minnesota Vikings 2021 free agency outlook

The Minnesota Vikings will need to make some upgrades to their roster to compete for the NFC North in 2021, but they are in the negatives for cap space. Minnesota finished with a 7-9 record, just a game out of the playoffs and six games behind the Green Bay Packers in the division. Minnesota will have plenty of decisions this offseason as the Vikings are looking find themselves in the playoffs.

Lost revenue due to COVID-19 will impact every team, but with so many free agents the likely drop in the league wide salary cap number could make things difficult. The 2020 number was around $198 million, while the 2021 number could drop to $180.5 million according to Over The Cap, but is subject to change.

Franchise/Transition Tag possibilities

The Vikings placed the franchise tag on safety Anthony Harris in the 2020 offseason and made $11,441,000 last season. According to Pro Football Focus, he is the seventh best free agent on the market, so he is still looked at fairly highly across the NFL. It is unlikely he signs the franchise tag again, and he will be a free agent at age 29. It also seems unlikely the Vikings will utilize the franchise tag this offseason especially when they are looking to shed some money to get back under the cap.
