New York Jets 2021 free agency outlook

The New York Jets season was a mess once again in the 2020 season even through the end of the season when they lost out on the No. 1 draft pick. The Jets finished with a 2-14 record and are restarting on plenty of areas in the organization. New York has a ton of cap space to work with this offseason and will need to make plenty of decisions to improve the future of this franchise.

Lost revenue due to COVID-19 will impact every team, but with so many free agents the likely drop in the league wide salary cap number could make things difficult. The 2020 number was around $198 million, while the 2021 number could drop to $176 to $180 million, according to Over The Cap, but is subject to change.

Franchise/Transition Tag possibilities

The Jets were not among the teams that utilized the franchise tag in the 2020 offseason, and it appears likely they will stay way from it again in 2021. If there is one player New York appears eager to bring back, it is safety Marcus Maye. General Manager Joe Douglas has already said bringing him back is a top priority, but it is likely Maye will like a long-term deal and with the Jets having a lot of money to spend, they will likely opt to sign him to a new contract outside of the franchise tag if he returns.
