Super Bowl 56 sleepers include Chargers, Cowboys

We take a look at three teams who might be worth a Super Bowl 56 wager.

As we peruse the odds to win Super Bowl 56, it will be easy to focus in on the best teams of the 2020 season. Tom Brady is coming back and the Buccaneers have strong units on both sides of the ball. The Chiefs should have better injury luck on their offensive-line next season and Mahomes’ turf toe will be a thing of the past. The Bills young team led by Josh Allen will be more battle tested and maybe the Packers will actually get a No. 2 receiver for Aaron Rodgers. But, who are those teams that have a chance to surprise people and make an improbable run in 2021? We take a look at three.

Los Angeles Chargers +2800

What we saw from Justin Herbert in 2020 isn’t just a few good games against bad teams. Nor was he held up by a great offensive line and running game. The Rookie of the Year saw tremendous pressure and made amazing throw after amazing throw. Expecting a Super Bowl run out of him would be asking a lot, but the season he put together was more than I could have dreamed. He needs a lot of offensive line help, but otherwise the team does have a lot of good pieces in place on defense and offense. If they have a good offseason, I see them contending.

Indianapolis Colts +2800

The Colts have a good coach in Frank Reich and I expect him to win a Super Bowl with Indianapolis at some point. If Philip Rivers hadn’t have used up his arm in San Diego, 2020 could have been the year, but he did and there was no chance the old man could get the job done. The fact that Rivers retired is a good thing for the Colts Super Bowl chances. Of course, finding a quarterback this offseason who can take you to the title game isn’t going to be easy. But the Colts don’t need Deshaun Watson to walk through the door to have a shot to win it all, as they have an overall sound team that is coached well. But Watson would be pretty awesome.

Dallas Cowboys +3000

I don’t have much faith in Jerry Jones or Mike McCarthy, but a healthy Dak Prescott and team that is packed with receiving talent has my attention. Jones would sell his soul for a Super Bowl and probably already has, but the devil likely gave him a big porcelain bowl and said it was super. Anyway, the Cowboys will do whatever they can to bring in talent. They also already have an offense that will put up points next season. And I believe they’ve learned they aren’t going anywhere with Ezekiel Elliott as the the key to their offense. As they diversify that offense by adding Tony Pollard and go more pass heavy, they’ll have an opportunity to be one of the best in the league. Defense will be the biggest need this offseason, and if they can upgrade there, they have a shot at making it to the playoffs and going on a run.
