The Mountain West Conference Tournament is set to begin on Wednesday and No 19. San Diego State stands above the rest of the pack. Several other teams could make a run at the title in a very competitive conference, though. Will the lone ranked team win out?
We’ll be taking a look at some of the best teams in each conference and providing picks and predictions for each conference tournament. Plenty of favorites will win, but we’ve got some sleepers to consider that might be able to pull off a big upset on the way to the NCAA Tournament.
Here’s the bracket for the Mountain West Conference Tournament with TV listings, dates and times.
Favorite: No. 19 San Diego State (+125)
The Aztecs were one of four teams in the Mountain West with at least 14 conference wins but are the only ranked team in the field. San Diego State has won 11 straight games since dropping two straight to Utah State, and Colorado State (+370) is the only other team that’s beaten the Aztecs in conference play. The top seed’s two biggest threats will have to duke it out before the championship game.
Sleeper: Boise State (+400)
The Broncos had the second-most wins in the Mountain West during the regular season but is the No. 4 seed because Colorado State has a better winning percentage. Boise State split its regular-season series with Colorado State and sweet Utah State. It also fell short by four points in its second meeting with San Diego State. One big win in the second round against the favorite could open up the floodgates for the Broncos.
Dark Horse: Nevada (+2500)
Nevada is a longshot but beat Boise State twice and Colorado State once in its final five regular-season games. The Wolf Pack had a close run-in with San Diego State as well and only lost by two points. Beating Boise State and San Diego State to reach the finals will be tough, but Nevada has shown promise.
