Report: Thunder send Hamidou Diallo to Pistons for Svi Mykhailiuk

OKC is also acquiring a second-round pick for Diallo in the deal. The pick is in 2027.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have traded G/F Hamidou Diallo to the Detroit Pistons for G Svi Mykhailiuk and a 2027 second-round pick, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported late Friday night. Diallo has been sidelined for the Thunder due to injury. It’s unclear if OKC was holding him out while awaiting this deal to go through.

This feels like a very good deal for the rebuilding Pistons. Diallo — when healthy — has shown flashes of upside with the Thunder. He’s averaging a career-high 11.9 points per game on 48 percent shooting from the floor in 32 games. Diallo has a lot of work to become a solid rotation player or even starter. Still, the Pistons gave up a 36.9 percent 3-point shooter who will probably only be a 3-point specialist in Mykhailiuk.

The Pistons now have a few decent young assets for their rebuild so far. That includes Killian Hayes, Sekou Doumbouya, Isaiah Stewart, Saddiq Bey and now Diallo. Detroit will likely get another high pick in the 2021 NBA Draft depending on how the lottery goes. The Pistons are positioned well to ship off expiring contracts over the next 3 seasons for more assets. Wayne Ellington, Delon Wright, Jerami Grant and Mason Plumlee should fall into that category, maybe not this season but down the road.
