The top two seeds in the Atlantic 10 will compete for the conference championship when the St. Bonaventure Bonnies take on the VCU Rams on Sunday, March 14 in Dayton, Ohio. No matter who wins this game, both teams are likely going to be a part of the NCAA Tournament.

So far this event has taken place in two different arenas in Richmond, Virginia, from March 3-6, but the final is taking place eight days later at Dayton Arena on the campus of the University of Dayton.

St. Bonaventure (15-4, 11-4 Atlantic 10) entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed and earned double-digit wins against Duquesne and Saint Louis. The Bonnies have five players scoring double digit points per game, and all five have played in all 19 games this season. Junior guard Kyle Lofton is averaging team highs 14.2 points and 5.5 assists. St. Bonaventure play very well on the defensive end of the floor and ranks No. 19 in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency ratings

VCU (19-6, 10-4 Atlantic 10) is the conference’s No. 2 seed and made it to the title game with victories over Dayton and Davidson. Like St. Bonaventure, this team is led by defense, which ranks No. 10 in college basketball in adjusted defensive efficiency. Nah’Shon Hyland will be the player to watch as he scores 19.4 points per game, which is the most among players in the conference.

Point Spread, Totals, Odds, Trends from DraftKings Sportsbook:

Point spread: St. Bonaventure -2.5
Point Total: O/U 128
Money line: VCU (+125), St. Bonaventure (-152)

  • VCU is 9-2 straight up in their last 11 games but just 6-4-1 against the spread in that span.
  • St. Bonaventure is 5-1 straight up and against the spread in their last six games.
  • The total went under in nine of VCU’s last 12 games, and the under hit in six of St. Bonaventure’s last seven.

The Best Bet

Everything about this game leads toward the under, so that’s where we’re going with this one. The defenses in this game are very good, and more than a week between games should be another good sign for the defensive end of the floor. Combine all that with St. Bonaventure playing one of the slowest styles of basketball (321st in possessions per game nationally), and we’re rooting against points in this one even with a very low number.

The Pick: Under 128
