Free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has found a new home, and will once again have an opportunity to compete for a starting job. The Washington Football Team has signed Fitzpatrick to a one-year deal worth $10 million with $2 million in incentives, according to Adam Schefter.
Schefter is reporting Fitzpatrick is expected to head to camp as the starter, with Taylor Heinicke offering competition. Washington released Alex Smith earlier this offseason after Heinicke showed some signs of life late in the year. Fitzpatrick might open the year as the starter, but we’ll see if he completes 16 games as the team’s starter.
The bearded-one played well in 2020 with the Miami Dolphins, as he had his best QBR ever while posting his second-best quarterback rating. The Beard only improves with age it seems. He’s not a long term answer for Washington, but with Heinicke’s modest emergence, the team could look to kick the can down the road one more year on the quarterback position.
