The Indiana Hoosiers are making a big change following a disappointing 2020-2021 season. The program is firing head coach Archie Miller, per Jeff Goodman.
Miller is coming off a 12-15 season and never did better than an NIT appearance in four seasons as the Hoosiers head coach. The team went 19-16 in his second year and reached the NIT quarterfinals. The team went 20-12 in the 2019-2020 season but any chance at the postseason was scuttled when the season was canceled due to COVID-19. Miller finished his four seasons with a 67-56 record, including a 33-43 record in Big Ten play.
Miller did solid work on the recruiting trail, signing three-consecutive IndyStar Mr. Basketball winners. He landed numerous McDonald’s All-Americans but could not convert the talent into wins on the court.
This all came after arriving in Bloomington amidst huge expectations. Prior to coaching at IU, Miller spent six seasons at Dayton. He made four straight tournament appearances to close out his time coaching the Flyers. He guided Dayton to an Elite 8 appearance in 2013-14, a second round appearance in 2014-15, and a first round exit each of the next two seasons.
The irony will be that former Hoosier head coach Archie Miller will be coaching at Indiana this weekend: His Houston Cougars are a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and will face No. 15 seed Cleveland State at Assembly Hall this weekend.
