Free agent wide receiver Nelson Agholor has found a new home, and a new opportunity to compete for a starting job. The Patriots have signed Agholor according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Agholor is coming off the best season of his six-year career, where he topped or tied virtually every statistical record he had during his first five years. He finished 2020 second on the Las Vegas Raiders in receiving yards, with 896 and had eight scores as well. One issue that has plagued him over his career has been drops, he’s never caught more than 65% of balls thrown his way and in 2020 he caught under 59% of his targets.
Much of Agholor’s success came on deep passes in Las Vegas last season and in New England he will likely be used as a deep threat as well. The Patriots have gone all out in free agency, adding three pass catchers in Jonnu Smith, Hunter Henry and Kendrick Bourne to go along with Agholor. Finding targets for all of them on what could again be a run-oriented offense will likely be a tall task.
