UPDATE: March 19, 2:34 p.m. — Irving will be available to play in Friday’s game vs. the Magic.
UPDATE: March 18, 5:09 p.m. — Irving is being listed as probable to return to the lineup Friday vs. the Orlando Magic. The Nets PG was held out of Wednesday’s win over the Pacers, a game in which James Harden had a 40-point triple-double. Irving should return and replace Shamet in the starting lineup.
Brooklyn Nets PG Kyrie Irving has been ruled out for Wednesday’s game vs. the Indiana Pacers due to a groin injury. The Nets are riding a five-game winning streak and have two more games this weekend after facing the Pacers. This could just be a chance to get Irving a bit more rest to keep him fresh. Kevin Durant (hamstring) remains sidelined.
Update: Landry Shamet will start in place of Irving vs. the Pacers.
Brooklyn has won 13 of the past 14 games. Irving has sat out at times this season, particularly while KD is sidelined as well. With both out again Wednesday, the Nets will turn to James Harden. I’d be attacking Harden at every angle: DFS and betting lines. Harden has four triple-doubles in six games in March. This would be another scenario in which we’d expect Harden to get another triple-double. He’ll be tasked with driving more of the offense with Irving out, so points props are also appealing.
In DFS, Harden ($10,900) is the second-highest priced player on the main 10-game slate. The Beard will likely be a must-play in cash games and tournaments. We know what happens when Harden is given the keys to an offense. The upside is through the roof. Harden could post 80+ fantasy points against the Pacers and break the slate. So it will be tough to fade Harden, though consider it’s a 10-game slate. There may be builds that end up working without him (but it’s unlikely).
