The Buffalo Bills will sign Mitchell Trubisky to be Josh Allen’s backup, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Trubisky likely wanted to go to a team that would give him a shot to compete for a starting job, but that won’t be in the cards in Buffalo.
The now ex-Bears starter showed signs of ability with Chicago, but could never put up consistent numbers and wins. He was passed over as the starter for Nick Foles for a period last year, but Foles couldn’t hold onto the job, giving Trubisky the job back.
Trubisky does fit the Josh Allen mold somewhat and could provide positive spot starts if he were to go down with an injury, but they wouldn’t want to rely on him too long.
