2021 free-agent wide receiver, JuJu Smith-Schuster will spend at least one more season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Smith-Schuster will take a one-year deal, likely due to a depressed free agency market. That could get him in better shape for free agency next offseason.
Many people expected Smith-Schuster to have a breakout year after Antonio Brown left town, but the 24-year-old fell short of expectations. Smith-Schuster led all Steelers in receptions (97) and touchdowns (9) but ranked third in receiving yards (831) and second in targets. He found the end zone often enough but wasn’t the go-to guy, which left plenty of questions regarding his longterm upside.
Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool took over the top options for stretches, but Smith-Schuster will remain a top target in what should continue to be a pass-happy Steelers offense with Ben Roethlisberger at the helm for at least one more season.
