The New England Patriots have gone all out in free agency, including bringing in multiple new pass catchers. That includes former San Francisco 49ers receiver Kendrick Bourne. Bourne will join new pass catchers Nelson Agholor, Jonnu Smith, and Hunter Henry as well as old pass catcher Julian Edelman in Foxboro.
Kendrick Bourne signing: Fantasy football impact
Bourne ended up with his most receptions and yards in his four-year career last season, as he caught 49-of-74 targets for 667 yards and two touchdowns. He was never able to win a starting job in San Francisco, but has been projected as a starting slot receiver. He should have a better chance of starting in New England though.
The biggest obstacle for fantasy upside for Bourne won’t be playing time as much as it will hinge on the quarterback. Right now Cam Newton is the starter and he wasn’t able to get the passing game going last season. He’ll get some reinforcements this season, but the offense isn’t suited for secondary receivers to have fantasy upside at the moment.
