How and what to watch for No. 15 Texas vs. Iowa State

Texas has struggled a bit recently, but Iowa State has lost 14 straight.

The Texas Longhorns hit the road Tuesday in search of another Big 12 win over the Iowa State Cyclones.

Texas (14-7, 8-6 Big 12) has lost two of their last five games, including a nine-point loss to Texas Tech in their outing. All but one of their losses coming to top-20 teams, and are ranked as the 23rd most efficient unit in the nation according to KenPom. They’re led by Andrew Jones who’s scoring 15.1 points per game. Outside of Jones, they have three other players averaging in double figures.

Iowa State (2-18, 0-15 Big 12) hasn’t won a Big 12 game all season and it’s unlikely this will be the first one they get. The last time the two teams played Texas was on a streak of playing four out of five games against top-25 teams and the Longhorns still came away with a 78-72 win. Even with all the losses, the Cyclones don’t tend to get blown out recently, with only one of their last five losses coming by more than 10 points. ISU is led offensively by Rasir Bolton’s 15 points per game. The team as a whole scores just 66 points per game while allowing 77 on average for the season.

KenPom is giving the Longhorns an 85% chance to go on the road and come away with a win in this one.

Point Spread, Totals, Odds, Trends

Point spread: Texas -11.5
Point Total: 142.5
Money line: Texas -835, Iowa State +540

  • Texas isn’t dominating anybody, going 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 games
  • The over has hit in 11 of UT’s last 14 games
  • The Cyclones are 2-4 ATS in their last six games
  • The over has hit in all but three of ISU’s last 10 games.

The Best Bet

Texas has been far from reliable ATS. Iowa State hasn’t been spectacular but losing by less than 11 points against No. 16 Oklahoma and No. 3 Baylor makes the home team seem more appealing than the Longhorns.

Pick: Iowa State +11.5
