The 2021 MLB season is fast approaching in April and Spring Training is in full swing. The American League figures to be super competitive with a few teams emerging as contenders heading into the season. If we look at the World Series odds on DraftKings Sportsbook really fast, we can see that six of the teams inside the top 10 in odds are from the AL. So among those teams, we have plenty of candidates for AL MVP.

The Chicago White Sox are getting a ton of World Series hype and it’s mostly because of the guy at the top of that table below: Eloy Jimenez. After finishing fourth in Rookie of the Year voting in 2019, Jimenez had a breakout in 2020 in 55 games. He belted 14 homers with 41 RBI while batting .296. He finished inside the top 15 in OPS and just outside the top 20 in slugging. At 24 years old, many believe Jimenez will enter his prime and take another big step in 2021. As a result, he’s seeing the highest percentage of handle among bets while getting 9 percent of the actual bets on DKSB at 33/1.

What’s most interesting about these splits is most of the bets and handle are coming in on players with longer odds. The top 2 players in terms of AL MVP odds are Los Angeles Angels OF Mike Trout (+200) and Houston Astros 3B Alex Bregman (+1000). Neither player is on the betting splits we got for March 1. Most of the money is going toward White Sox in Luis Robert and Tim Anderson, and New York Yankees 2B DJ LeMahieu among others. The other thing that stands out is not one player is separated by more than 2 percent in terms of bets. The public views this as a wide open race heading into the season.
