Breaking down NL MVP betting splits at the beginning of Spring Training

We take a look at how the public is betting on the National League MVP market on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Why the Cardinals won’t win the NL Central

If we take a look at the lines for American League MVP, we see Mike Trout at 2/1 and the rest of the field below him. If we take a look at the lines for National League MVP, well, it’s absolutely loaded. Right now on DraftKings Sportsbook, NL MVP five players who basically have the same odds to win the award. It should make for an exciting betting market and race throughout the season.

So the players that are at the top starts with Los Angeles Dodgers OF Mookie Betts at +750, moving down to Washington Nationals OF Juan Soto (+750), Dodgers OF Cody Bellinger (+800), Atlanta Braves OF Ronald Acuna (+850) and ending with San Diego Padres SS Fernando Tatis Jr. (+850). Really, you can make a pretty good case for every NL player in the top 10 in terms of MVP odds. It’s such a loaded League this season.

As for the betting splits below, there are clear favorites in the eyes of the public. As you can see, 30 percent of the bets are going to Tatis and Soto. The Pads young superstar just signed a massive contract extension and appears primed to take a jump into the MVP conversation after finishing just outside the top 3 in voting in 2020. Soto led the League in batting and OPS last season and somehow still finished fifth in MVP voting in the NL. Over a full season, Soto likely would have had a shot to make more of a case for MVP.

Last season’s MVP Freddie Freeman is at +1200 on DKSB and isn’t getting much love from the public. It’s difficult in the MLB to repeat as MVP and Freeman will be competing with too many young, talented players over the course of a full season (rather than the abbreviated season in 2020). St. Louis Cardinals 3B Nolan Arenado is getting a lot of love at 14 percent of the bets heading into his first season with his new team. Many clearly expect Arenado to bounce back after last season and return to MVP form.
