The Los Angeles Lakers are still feeling the effects of losing LeBron James, who is out indefinitely with a high ankle sprain. James was injured in the second quarter of Saturday’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks. So the Lakers are down both superstars in James and Anthony Davis (calf). The Phoenix Suns will look to take advantage of a weakened Lakers squad and move up in the West standings, eyeing down the Utah Jazz in first place.
Pick ATS: Suns -9.5
This feels like a trap. The Lakers don’t have LeBron or AD but they aren’t completely screwed. Frank Vogel is a good coach who has done more with less. Montrezl Harrell, Kyle Kuzma and Dennis Schroder will all have to step up but are all capable scorers. We could see more Talen Horton-Tucker. Still, the Suns are a good defensive team and taking LeBron’s playmaking ability and defense away is rough. The Suns are a good home team and have a plus-record ATS this season. Between the perimeter defenders and depth, Phoenix should make this an easy cover.
Player Prop: Devin Booker O1.5 3-Pointers (-139)
This line is way too low. Booker to get at least 2 treys against a Lakers team missing LeBron and AD seems like free money. The line isn’t that appealing but it’s fine because we don’t have much risk. Booker hasn’t been taking as many 3-pointers this season. He’s still reaching this over in 52.7 percent of games this season. It’s not as good a number as you’d expect. It still feels like Booker will get some favorable matchups with the Lakers shorthanded and should bang two outside shots.
