The West region saw a few upsets, but there are still four quality teams competing for the Final Four, though the top-seed Gonzaga Bulldogs are heavy favorites to advance through the region. They will have enough competition to keep games worth monitoring, but they are likely going to be the representative from the West with the way they’ve played all season long.
Let’s take a look at the odds of some of its top contenders at DraftKings Sportsbook as we enter the second round of March Madness.
No. 1 Gonzaga -295
What else is there to say about this team? Gonzaga continues to prove they are the best team in college basketball, and it will take an upset for any team in this tournament to take them down. After a 43-point win in the first round, Gonzaga beat the Oklahoma Sooners by 17, and they would likely be double-digit favorites against any of the three remaining teams in this region.
No. 5 Creighton +300
Creighton appears to have gotten over their struggled to end the season as they worked their way into the Sweet 16, though they haven’t faced the toughest of competition against a No. 12 seed and No. 13 seed to get here. The Bluejays did what they need to do against weaker competition, and they’ll get a shot at Gonzaga where it would take an incredible performance to advance.
No. 6 USC +350
USC looked very good in their first two games of the tournament, most notably a 34-point win over the No. 3 seed Kansas Jayhawks on Monday. Their matchup against Oregon should be one of the best games of the Sweet 16, and the winner likely will get a chance at taking down Gonzaga. Both are tough tasks, but they can hang with anybody if they play as well as they did in the Round of 32.
No. 7 Oregon +600
Oregon has the worst odds among this group by a wide margin to get this done, but the Ducks played very well toward the end of the regular season and continued to do so into the Sweet 16. Oregon’s first round matchup against the VCU Rams was ruled a no-contest due to COVID-19, but the Ducks came out sharp offensively and beat the Iowa Hawkeyes 95-80 in the second round. They are the long shot of the group, but they are being undervalued being that far behind USC to reach the Final Four.
