The boxing world eagerly awaits Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua facing off to a crown an undisputed heavyweight champ, but there is technically another heavyweight champ out there. WBC interim champ Alexander Povetkin faces off against Dillian Whyte on Saturday, in a rematch of Povetkin’s August 2020 knockout victory.
The fight takes place in Gibraltar, airing on SkySports and via live stream on DAZN. The full card starts at 3 p.m. ET and the two heavyweights are scheduled to begin their ring walks at approximately 4:30 p.m., depending on the lengths of the earlier fights.
Although Povetkin won the first fight by fifth round knockout, he had struggled up to that point. Whyte put him on the floor twice in the fourth round and seemed ready to finish him off. Whyte lost out on a mandatory against WBC champ Tyson Fury with that loss and both fighters need a win to get into the mix if and when Fury and Joshua do face off this year.
In spite of the knockout, Povetkin is a sizable underdog in this fight. DraftKings Sportsbook has installed the interim champ as a +240 underdog, while Whyte is a -345 favorite. Whyte enters the fight with a 27-2 record and had won 11 straight fights prior to the loss. Povetkin is 36-2-1, but was 2-1-1 in his previous four fights. That included a TKO loss to Joshua back in 2018.
Whyte is favored and this fight is seen as unlikely to go the distance. Whyte winning via stoppage is a -137 favorite, followed by Povetkin stoppage and Whyte by points each listed at +300. You can bet on whether or not the fight will go the distance, with “No” a big favorite at -335. If you think there will be a stoppage, you’re better off just betting the “winning method” odds with who you think gets said stoppage.
