How the NBA Trade Deadline impacted Sixers futures odds

We take a look at how the deadline deal to acquire George Hill impacted Philadelphia’s futures outlook on DraftKings Sportsbook.

The Philadelphia 76ers didn’t go crazy at the 2021 NBA Trade Deadline. This was probably for the best. Instead of going all-in on a player like PG Kyle Lowry, the Sixers kept things modest and made a minor move for PG George Hill from the OKC Thunder. The addition of Hill didn’t move the needle too much in terms of odds for the Sixers long-term. Let’s take a look at the movement.

Philadelphia 76ers odds

Championship odds: +1100
Odds to win East: +500

So really there wasn’t a ton of line movement here. The Sixers were 12/1 to win it all on DKSB before the deadline and moved up slightly to 11/1 after the dust settled. The Sixers have a solid roster as is and should have no trouble competing in the Eastern Conference. Perhaps the only knock on Philly is they added Hill and a few competitors did a bit more. The Miami Heat added Victor Oladipo and Nemanja Bjelica. The Boston Celtics added Evan Fournier. So between those two teams, the Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets, and even Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks and now Chicago Bulls, the East is much tougher.

The Sixers just need to stay healthy, which is something they’ve been unable to do in the playoffs the past couple of seasons. Last year, the Sixers lost Ben Simmons in the bubble and fizzled out. This season, Joel Embiid has been sidelined with a knee injury. He’s expected to be back soon. The key is long-term health. If Philly can survive injuries and keep the rotation intact, it has as good a chance as any to come out of the East an win it all.
