Tale of the Tape for the Sean O’Malley vs. Thomas Almeida bantamweight fight at UFC 260

Bantamweights Sean O’Malley and Thomas Almeida meet in the Octagon on the main card of UFC 260 on Saturday, March 27th. We break down the odds.

Why Sean O’Malley will beat Thomas Almeida at UFC 260

In a bantamweight battle on the main card of UFC 260 this Saturday, March 27th, Sean O’Malley looks to get back on track after his first-ever MMA loss as he faces Thomas Almeida live from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The bout will be broadcast on ESPN+ pay-per-view, with the main card expected to get underway about 10:00 p.m.

O’Malley is one of the most exciting fighters in MMA, with a career record of 12-1 with nine stoppages. On August 15th of last year he took his first loss, as Marlon Vera stopped him by TKO at 4:40 of the first round. Vera used a series of leg kicks to weaken O’Malley’s base, and from there he was a sitting duck.

Prior to the setback “The Sugar Show” was 5-0 in a UFC cage, with a 6.35 strikes per minute rate with 57% accuracy, as well as 1.05 takedowns per 15-minute bout. He also takes 3.76 strikes per minute with his wide-open style, and likes to use his power to find some fantastic knockouts.

Almeida enters as a significant underdog, and might be fighting for his UFC contract. He has a 22-4 career MMA record, but is just 5-4 in the UFC and has lost his last three bouts. Almeida also added a 2.5 year layoff from the cage between January of 2018 and October of 2020 due to eye surgery that nearly ended career.

“Thominhas” lands 5.39 strikes per minute with a 44% accuracy, and is yet to execute a takedown in a UFC octagon. The exciting style of both fighters means this one should in the stand-up, and is unlikely to go the distance.

Here are the betting odds at DraftKings Sportsbook for Sean O’Malley vs. Thomas Almeida at UFC 260 on March 27.
