How the public is betting No. 5 Creighton vs. No. 1 Gonzaga in NCAA Tournament Sweet 16

Creighton and Gonzaga face off in the Sweet 16 round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament. We break down how the public is betting the game at DraftKings Sportsbook and whether or not they’re right.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs have made easy work of every opponent in their way this season, but sitting just four games away from a national title, the Creighton Bluejays will try to and break their run.

But before you blindly throw your cash on the Zags, as I’m sure many of you already have, be sure to check out this odds history article. It shows how both of these teams have done this season against the oddsmakers and could give you a real edge when placing bets.

Here are the odds and bet splits for No. 5 Creighton vs. No. 1 Gonzaga in the Sweet 16 of the 2021 NCAA Tournament from DraftKings Sportsbook:

Against The Spread

Creighton: +13.5 (29% of handle, 28% of bets)
Gonzaga: -13.5 (71% of handle, 72% of bets)

Is the public right?

Gonzaga isn’t always a safe bet against the spread, and that’s mainly because they see massive lines like this on a regular basis. This is actually one of the smaller spreads they’ve seen this season, which is pretty wild to consider. Still, when facing lines 13.5 or under, they’ve won all but one time.

But Creighton has only lost two games all season by more than 10 points, so I think the public is in the clear on this one.

Creighton: +700 (50% of handle, 27% of bets)
Gonzaga: -1115 (50% of handle, 73% of bets)

Is the public right?

I’m not quite sure what that 27% of people who bet against Gonzaga are doing here. The Zags are a 13 point favorite for a reason. They’re by far the best team in the nation. Creighton is certainly a good team, but they’re scoring 76 points per game while the Bulldogs are scoring nearly 100.

They’ll just be too much for the Bluejays to overcome.

Point Total

Over: 158.0 (67% of handle, 55% of bets)
Under: 158.0 (33% of handle, 45% of bets)

Is the public right?

This is probably the toughest one of the three to predict. But I have to agree with the public on this one. Gonzaga’s offense is the most efficient in the nation and they play at one of the top tempos as well. So even if they aren’t as efficient as usual, they’ll still get a ton of looks at the basket thanks to their pace of play.

Of the last 10 times Gonzaga has seen a point total set at 150 or higher, the over has hit on seven of them. Don’t expect them to take the foot off the gas in the NCAA Tournament, either. Creighton’s defense is good, but the speed of the Zags will wear them down and the over should hit.
