The NCAA’s 2021 men’s basketball tournament is set to resume on Saturday with the Sweet 16, and there are quite a few fun matchups to look forward to. March Madness has been loaded with upsets this year, and bettors have swarmed to place wagers on the third round. Some favorites are expected to win big, but the public is also backing some major underdogs. Let’s go over some of the notable betting splits ahead of the weekend.

Saturday’s final Sweet 16 game will be between No. 11 Syracuse (+230) and No. 2 Houston (-286). While the Cougars have been one of the most dominant teams in college basketball this year and are injury-free, the public is giving the Orange a ton of respect. Bettors have placed 65% of the handle and 62% of the total bets on Syracuse for moneyline wagers. Junior guard Buddy Boheim — the son of Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim — has arguably been the best player in this year’s tournament so far and is averaging 27.5 points per contest while shooting 59.4% from the floor and 56.5% from three. The Orange’s thrilling win over No. 3 West Virginia in the round of 32 appears to have convinced bettors that they’re the real deal.

Another underdog worth keeping an eye on is No. 15 Oral Roberts (+460), which is set to face No. 3 Arkansas (-670) on Saturday. The Golden Eagles are 11.5-point underdogs at DraftKings Sportsbook, but command 73% of the tickets on point-spread wagers. Oral Roberts also commands 60% of the handle on moneyline wagers. Max Abmas and Kevin Obanor have emerged as some of the tournament’s biggest up-and-coming stars so far, and the duo will have to continue performing at a high level to pull off another upset.
