The UConn Huskies have returned to their birthright, and the 11-time national champions are back in the Final Four once again. They did it with a dramatic 69-67 win over the Baylor Bears in the Elite Eight that included a 19-0 come-from-behind run in the second half.
One of the youngest UConn teams of the Geno Auriemma Era has advanced, led by superstar freshman Paige Bueckers, who had 28 points in the Baylor victory.
How UConn made the 2021 Final Four
The UConn women were the automatic bid from the Big East for the first time in quite awhile, having moved to the American Conference in 2013. This was their first season back in the league that made them famous, and the Huskies were 28-1 this season, 18-0 in the Big East.
When did UConn last appear in the Final Four?
The Huskies were last in the Final Four the last time it happened in 2019. They lost in the national semifinals to a Notre Dame team led by Arike Ogunbowale 81-76. It was the last game of the Katie Lou Samuelson Era in Storrs, who never won a national championship as a player on the floor for UConn.
How many times has UConn appeared in the Final Four?
This is the Huskies 13th-straight Final Four and their 21st overall (all under head coach Geno Auriemma). They will be competing for a 12th national title.
