Report: Tyrell Williams to sign with Detroit Lions

Tyrell Williams tore his labrum in his shoulder in training camp and missed the entire 2020 season, his last as a Raider. He will now be moving on to play with his old coach from his Chargers days, Anthony Lynn. Lynn was recently hired as the offensive coordinator with the Detroit Lions after being let go, and now he’ll get his old wide receiver back, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Lions are in rebuilding mode after revamping their coaching staff and trading away quarterback Matthew Stafford. They also have their top two receivers hitting free agency this season, as Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones could go elsewhere this offseason. Williams will replace one of those two guys.

This signing doesn’t change the question of whether Kenny Golladay will get the franchise tag or work out a deal with the Lions, as it is a lock that Jones is on his way out and they needed to find his replacement. Golladay will receive a one-year deal with a worth possibly reaching $6.2 million. That’s about as good as it would get for a receiver coming off a season-long injury.
