The 2021 NBA All-Star Game is scheduled to take place in Atlanta on Sunday night and don’t you worry, we’re also getting most of the other events. The 3-Point Contest will take place prior to the All-Star Game at 6:30 p.m. ET on TNT. The contestants for the contest were announced this week and it’s comprised of all players who will be playing in the All-Star Game. DraftKings Sportsbook has initial odds for the shootout, so let’s take a look. DKSB is also offering a few other props surround the contest, you can locate everything here.
Note: Devin Booker (knee) was replaced by Jazz G Mike Conley on Friday.
NBA 3-Point Contest odds
Devin Booker +200
Stephen Curry +200
Zach LaVine +500
Donovan Mitchell +500
Jayson Tatum +700
Jaylen Brown +700
So with all of these types of contests, I tend to lean on taking somebody with steeping odds than the favorites. Really, Steph and Book are getting the early nod because each of them has won this contest in the past. My first two thoughts are LaVine at 5/1 and Brown at 7/1. Tatum doesn’t feel like the type of shooter who can get up enough shots in time for this event. Brown has a smoother shooting stroke to me and he’s a little underrated (sound familiar?).
LaVine has been one of the most efficient perimeter scorers in the NBA and is shooting a career-high 43.5 percent from outside this season. He also has the type of “chip on my shoulder” mentality to want to go out and win this event. At 5/1 you get a little bit of value on LaVine as opposed to going with two guys who have already won. Plus, you could argue LaVine has been the best shooter out of this group in 2020-21.
Curry seems like a sucker bet but he’s Steph. For all we know, he doesn’t care about starting in the All-Star Game and goes all out in the 3-point contest instead. The thing with Steph is he usually has Draymond Green and/or Klay Thompson hanging around to motivate him in these events. Neither should be in Atlanta this Sunday (though I wouldn’t be surprised if Klay makes the trip).
