After weeks of discussions and negotiations, between the NBA and the players’ association, the 2021 NBA All-Star Game will be played on Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET on TNT. The All-Star Game was originally scheduled to be played in Indianapolis, IN this season. But due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, the league moved it to the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, GA.
For this year’s edition, the team captains were LeBron James and Kevin Durant. While James will be suiting up for his 18th all-star appearance, Durant will miss the game because of an injury. Nevertheless, both Team LeBron and Team Durant are loaded with some of the best players not only in the world, but in the entire NBA.
Here, we’ll take a look at our favorite picks to win the 2021 All-Star game MVP award. All odds are courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
Even though he has played in the All-Star Game 17 times in his illustrious career, LeBron James has only won the MVP three times. The last time happened was in 2018. Therefore, wouldn’t it be something, if James won his fourth MVP award three years later, coming off a championship the previous season?
James has the best odds to win the MVP +500, with Joel Embiid right behind him at +650. Both players could be leading their teams in points by time the game is over and make the most impact.
Long Shot Pick
My long shot pick for MVP is none other than Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls. It’s been a long time for LaVine to get an All-Star Game nod after having a couple of good seasons with the Bulls. However, this season, the high-flying wing has taken his game to another level and will be looking to put on a show on Sunday night.
As we’ve seen this season, it doesn’t take much for him to get hot in a game. LaVine has +5000 odds to win the MVP, which is not favorable at 50/1, but if he can create some moments, then he has a shot.
