Well, Lance Lynn has quite the act to follow. One night after Carlos Rodon’s no-hitter which was one errant pitch away from possibly being a perfect game, Lynn will take the mound this afternoon in search of a series win for the Chicago White Sox. He wasn’t perfect, but Lynn was pretty dang great his last time out; he hurled a five-hit complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts and no walks versus the Royals.
The Cleveland Indians’ Aaron Civale won’t have to do much to surpass what Cleveland got from its starter on Wednesday night. Chicago jumped all over Zach Plesac for six runs on seven hits to knock him out of the game in the first inning. That White Sox’s offense looks more impressive today with the return of shortstop Tim Anderson. The 2019 MLB batting champ missed the past 10 days due to a hamstring strain.
Indians vs. White Sox, 2:10 p.m. ET
Moneyline pick: White Sox (-162)
Pretty easy call here to take the White Sox at home. Civale is an underrated pitcher, but he has given up a lot of firm contact so far this season (45.5% hard-hit rate), and Lynn is the much more dependable pitcher right now. Plus, Anderson isn’t just a dangerous leadoff hitter; he is the White Sox’s emotional leader as well, for what it’s worth. He could energize what is already an electric lineup.
Player Prop: Tim Anderson to hit a home run (+450)
Call me a romantic if you must, but I like these kinds of bets. The story and the payoff are worth your dollar(s). Anderson’s power has grown year by year. He mashed 10 balls in 49 games last year and had already homered once before sustaining his injury on April 4. He is 4-for-12 in his career versus Civale with three extra-base hits, including a home run. He may come back with a bang today.
