UPDATE: Jake Paul beat Ben Askren via first round TKO to improve to 3-0. Watch the right hand that won it.
Somehow this isn’t the first time Jake Paul has been paid to be a boxer. He’s actually had two fights previously, and he enters his bout with collegiate wrestling and MMA star Ben Askren with a 2-0 record.
So how did this happen? It starts as all great social media star/sweet science careers do, with a bout against a fellow social media star. Paul’s first career bout was against fellow YouTube personality AnEsonGib, who he stopped in the first round in January of 2020.
It was a solid performance, but against someone that’s not a professional athlete, it didn’t really test his mettle.
The second fight was against former NBA player Nate Robinson, who played 10 years in the league and was once paid for his athleticism. The three-time NBA Slam Dunk Champion got overwhelmed in the ring however, and it gave us some of the more memorable memes in boxing history.

On Saturday night, Paul takes on an actual combat sports athlete in Ben Askren. After that, we might see him move onto actually competing against real boxers.
