Breaking down the cut line for the 2021 Valero Texas Open

The Valero Texas Open has entered day 2. We break down where the cut line stands throughout the day.

FINAL CUT: The cut line closed at +2.

The PGA Tour has teed off the second round of the 2021 Valero Texas Open on Friday in San Antonio. Camilo Vilegas held the lead at the end of the first round, sitting at -8. He was two shots up on Sung Kang and Cameron Tringale headed into Friday.

The first trios have teed off, and the final groups will be on the course at 3:21 p.m. ET. There’s a long way to go before we find out what the weekend field looks like for the Valero Texas Open.

How is the cut line determined?

The cut line at 36 holes is the top 65 players plus those tied at the end of that group. Some tournaments will have a second cut after day three (54 holes) if that initial group is 78 total players, but this is not one of those tournaments.

What is the cut line for the Valero Texas Open?

6 p.m. — The cut line remains at +2 with the last trio heading to the back nine. There are 18 golfers at +2 and 17 at +3.

4:05 p.m. — The cut line is now at +2 with all remaining golfers on the course. There are 19 golfers at +2 and 18 at +3.

2:15 p.m. — The cut line remains at +1 with the back half of the field getting on to the course. 15 golfers are at +1 and 18 are at +2.

The cut line sits at +1 as of 10:55 a.m. ET. There are 19 players at +1 and 18 players at +2.

Who is not projected to make the cut?

4:05 p.m. — Adam Long and Jhonattan Vegas finished at +3 for the day. Rickie Fowler is at +3 but still has the whole back nine to get into the weekend.

2:15 p.m. — Tony Finau finished at +3 and is unlikely to make it into the weekend.

Notable names on the wrong side of the cut line include Tony Finau, Henrick Stenson, and Charley Hoffman (all at +2), Rickie Fowler (+4), and Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk (both +6).
