The Seattle Mariners knocked out a pair of home runs in the first two innings and held on to take the first game of a quick, two-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night as the Dodgers look to even the series on Tuesday, April 20th.
Los Angeles is the leader in all of baseball with a 13-4 record, but will look to avoid a three-game losing streak with Julio Urias set to return to the mound. The Dodgers are 3-0 in his starts as he comes in with a 2-0 record and 3.86 ERA.
The Mariners will enter with the second best record in baseball at 11-6 and won eight of their last 10 games. They will turn to Marco Gonzales, who is off to a slow start. In three outings, he has an 8.22 ERA with a 1-1 record.

It would be a high price to pay to get the Dodgers at -200 given what they’re missing. Already with Cody Bellinger on the injured list, Mookie Betts was hit by a pitch in Monday’s game. He stayed in the game, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts did not have an update on whether Betts would be in the lineup on Tuesday. Even with Gonzales’ rough start, he has been a quality starter for the Mariners the past few seasons, and they are worth the risk at plus value as home underdogs.

Even when considering how his numbers look through three starts, Gonzales is still striking batters out. He struck out five in his last start and six the one before that, and he had an 8.3 K/9 mark throughout the shortened 2020 season, which is very good for a starting pitcher. Combine that and the potential for the Dodgers to be without two of their stars and Gonzales is a good bet to strike out at least five batters on Tuesday.
