Basketball is alive in New York City! It feels like the first time, even though it’s just been a very long time since the 1990s. Still, I can feel the electricity from across the Hudson River and it’s because of the New York Knicks. You can also feel it from Knicks Twitter! ... Anyway, the Knicks extended their winning streak to eight games with a 137-127 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night.
It’s an NBA-best streak right now and it has the Knicks well positioned for the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2012-13. Just like the length of the streak, it’s taken the Knicks eight seasons to climb out of the gutter of the Eastern Conference. At 33-27, the Knicks hold down 4th place in the East, just 0.5 games ahead of the Hawks entering play Thursday.
So we all know about the Knicks resurgence this season and hopefully it’s sparked you to throw some more money on them in 2020-21. If that is the case, you’ve probably profited quite nicely. As you can see, the Knicks were favored on the moneyline in five of eight wins during the streak. They were a big time underdog to the Dallas Mavericks on April 16 at +215, which would have netted you the biggest single payday during the streak. The Knicks were favored by the biggest margin vs. the Charlotte Hornets at -225 on Tuesday before being underdogs vs. the Hawks. Atlanta lost Trae Young to an ankle sprain in the second half, which helped New York keep it going.

Just north of $122K, is that a high number?? The Knicks were getting points in 6 of the 11 games during this streak. The largest spread, again, was +6.5 against the Mavericks on April 16. The Knicks also covered the spread against the rival Brooklyn Nets early on in the streak at +5.5, when James Harden went down early in that game. It’s interesting that none of these spreads were too high or too low, the Knicks have just been getting great value for most of the season. It’s reflected in their record against the spread on DraftKings Sportsbook, which is the best in the NBA at 64.2% this season.
The Knicks will look to extend both streak over the weekend on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET against the Toronto Raptors at Madison Square Garden. After that, there’s a tough matchup at home vs. the Phoenix Suns, which could be when the magic ends for New York. If the Knicks can get past the Suns, however, easy games against the Chicago Bulls and Houston Rockets follow to close out next week. The Knicks could very well be riding a 12-game winning streak into the last month of the season.
