The struggles for the New York Yankees have been one of the most surprising stories early on in the MLB season, but they could be starting to turn it around after winning two of their last three games including yesterday’s game in a 6-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians. Meanwhile, the Indians have lost four of their last five games heading into Game 2 of the series on Friday, April 23rd.
New York will give the ball to lefthander Jordan Montgomery, who is 1-1 this season with a 4.24 ERA. He allowed four runs on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in six innings against the Tampa Bay Rays last time out in a loss. Cleveland will turn to lefty Logan Allen with a 1-2 record and 4.5 ERA. He pitched just two innings in his last start and allowed five runs (three earned) on three hits in two innings of work in a loss to the Cincinnati Reds.
Moneyline pick: Indians +123
Allen is a young pitcher and should be focused after a rough start his last time on the mound. He earned a spot in the back end of Cleveland’s rotation and held his own his first two starts, going five innings in both and gave up a combined three earned runs before his last outing. Allen will have a good chance to get back on track against a Yankees offense that ranks No. 26 in runs per game this season. Let’s go with the Indians in Game 2.
