Who will the San Francisco 49ers choose with their No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft? This remains a question without an answer and NFL media members are letting their voices be heard. The latest rumor has San Francisco choosing between Trey Lance and Mac Jones, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The prevailing thought has been that Jones is the leader, while fans were champing at the bit for Justin Fields to take over the reins.
As the #49ers close in on their decision of which QB to take at No. 3, sources say they are down to two prospects — and the belief is those two are #Bama QB Mac Jones and #NDSU QB Trey Lance. Several sources say the focus does appear to have shifted to those two.

At this point, leaning toward an insider like Rapoport’s reporting is all we truly have to go on when trying to decipher who the 49ers end up taking. But we have also heard how well GM John Lynch keeps these kinds of decisions obscured from the media.
Is it still worth taking a flier on Fields as the pick at such good odds? Maybe, but the drumbeat for Jones has been loud from almost every insider who chimes in. Those who love Fields and think he makes for the best pick may have to get past their personal leanings.
