Former Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond will likely hear his name called either on Day 2 or Day 3 of the 2021 NFL Draft. Mond has a solid four-year career at Texas A&M, where he played in a pro-style offense under head coach Jimbo Fisher.
The dual-threat quarterback had one of his best seasons in 2020, where he had the Aggies on the cusp of possibly playing in the College Football Playoff. Mond completed 63% of his passes for 2,282 yards, 19 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also had 294 rushing yards and fourth touchdowns. The 6-foot-3 signal caller isn’t as polished as Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence, or Zach Wilson, who will all be selected in the first round. But he should have a relative long career beginning as a backup next season.
Odds on where Mond might be drafted
Round 1: +1800
Round 2: +450
Round 3: +225
Round 4: +200
Round 5: +300
Round 6: +600
Round 7: +1600
It is highly unlikely that Mond will be drafted in the first round, despite there being a chance that quarterback will be selected within the first 32 picks on Thursday night. Therefore, he has a better chance to be picked in Round 2 as teams who need a developmental quarterback or a young quarterback might be willing to take a chance on him.
+450 odds might be relatively high, but if we see a run on quarterbacks in the first round, it will only push up guys such as Mond, Kyle Trask, and Davis Mills further up the draft board.
