The New York Giants head into the 2021 NFL Draft with fairly significant needs on both sides of the ball. Holding the No. 11 overall pick in the first round gives them a shot at a playmaker on either side, and it’s no surprise the betting public is split on how things might go. There’s an even split of handle at DraftKings Sportsbook between defensive end Jaelan Phillips and wide receiver DeVonta Smith.
On draft day, the sportsbook opened up odds on which position the Giants will select with their first pick and more simply, will it be offense or defense. Offensive is currently favored at -148, while defense is listed at +118.
Below is a list of odds for each of the specific positions they could select from Thursday evening. It’s not surprising wide receiver is the favorite. The team could find themselves deciding between the two Alabama wide receivers, DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle. Considering the early investment in Daniel Jones, it is not surprising that offensive line is also favored before we even get to a defensive position.
The team could decide defense is “best player available,” but they also need to sort out whether or not Jones is their long-term answer. The addition of Kenny Golladay was a big boost on offense, but are they happy enough with that addition to a group that includes Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard? If so, maybe offensive line at +300 is where some value lies.
Here’s the current odds for each position as of lunch time on draft day.
