Fantasy winners and losers from Day 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft

The second and third rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft are in the books, and plenty of moves were made that could have a big impact from a fantasy perspective. Here is a look at some of the winners and losers from Day 2 of the draft.

Day 2 Winners

QB Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

After the Chargers went with one of the best offensive tackles in the draft on Day 1, they brought in two pass catchers who have a decent amount of upside with wide receiver Josh Palmer and tight end Tre’ McKitty. Justin Herbert should have plenty of talented options to go to this season.

QB Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals brought in a real playmaker with former Purdue Boilermakers wide receiver Rondale Moore. You may not have seen him play because - well, he played for Purdue but also because he was injured for much of his career. If he can stay on the field, Kyler Murray should be excited by the speed Moore possesses.

QB Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers

Another QB has come up big. He was already going to be playing with an improved set of skill position players, and then the Panthers added Terrace Marshall, Jr. to the mix. That’s a stout group of receivers to go along with running back Christian McCaffrey and an offensive mind like Joe Brady.

WR Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers

The second day of the NFL Draft went by with Aaron Rodgers still a member of the Packers, so we can call their top pass catcher a winner in this scenario.

Day 2 Losers

RB Melvin Gordon, Denver Broncos

The Broncos traded up in the second round to take former North Carolina Tar Heels running back Javonte Williams, which is terrible news for Melvin Gordon’s fantasy future. Williams is a very talented back who split carries in college, but he definitely has the tools to be a three-down back.

WR Jamison Crowder, New York Jets

The addition of former Ole Miss Rebels wide receiver Elijah Moore is certainly bad news for Jamison Crowder’s future with the franchise. The Jets went after Moore with their top pick of the second round, and some thought he would be a first round pick. Crowder is now in danger of being cut.

49ers backfield

Kyle Shanahan is a fan of rotating backs, and he’ll have plenty to work with in 2021 thanks to the addition of third round pick Trey Sermon. He joins a group led by Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson, and it’s unclear how this group will shake out. I don’t think anybody would be surprised to see each rusher lead the team in carries more than once this season. The 49ers backfield will be great for winning real football games, but will be a dicey one for fantasy managers to figure out.
