Why are Seth Rollins and Cesaro meeting at Wrestlemania?

Night 1 of Wrestlemania will feature a true workhorse of a midcard match that could potentially open the show as Seth Rollins will face Cesaro in a showcase of the best in-ring technicians the Friday Night Smackdown brand has to offer.

Why are they fighting?

Storyline perspective

After taking a few months off due to the birth of his and Becky Lynch’s first child, Seth Rollins returned to action at the Royal Rumble still working the delusional “Messiah” gimmick that he put on before his sabbatical. After no Smackdown superstars offered themselves up to “embrace his vision”, Rollins took his anger out on Cesaro, igniting this mid-card feud.

Rollins would once again recruit Cesaro to embrace his vision and follow him so he could take his career to the next level, to which the Swiss Cyborg rebuffed him once again. Since February the two have traded attacks, setting up this match.

Real life perspective

Rollins has literally accomplished everything there is to be accomplished on the WWE, and is at a point now where he’s paying it forward by putting other superstars over. While Cesaro himself has been with the company for nearly a decade and served as one of the best tag team wrestlers they’ve ever had, there has always been sort of ceiling on how far up the ladder he can go as a singles competitor.

This match has the potential to serve as a showcase for Cesaro as an individual competitor, especially if he and Rollins can tear the house down in Raymond James Stadium.
