The Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals will continue their three-game series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. ET. Zack Wheeler will be on the mound for the Phillies, while Jon Lester will start for the Nats. We’ll go over some ideal picks on DraftKings Sportsbook centered around the game here.
Phillies vs. Nationals, 7:05 p.m. ET
Moneyline pick: Phillies -137
The Phillies snapped their two-game losing streak with a 6-2 victory on Tuesday night over the Nationals at Nationals Park. Bryce Harper opened up the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run off of Nats starter Erik Fredde. Phillies starting pitcher Chase Anderson also gave his team a quality outing, which was much-needed. He only allowed 3 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 walk, and struck out five in 5.0 IP.
Philadelphia will try to take a commanding 2-0 series lead over the Nats with Wheeler on the mound. The 30-year-old pitcher is beginning to round in form after a dynamic last start against the Milwaukee Brewers. Wheeler threw a complete game, gave up 3 hits, and struck out eight in a dominating performance. In his last three starts for Philadelphia, the veteran starter is averaging 7.6 strikeouts. But in 20 starts against the Nats, Wheeler has a record of 6-11 with an ERA of 4.64. He’s also allowed 12 home runs, which is the most against any time in his career.
Meanwhile, the Nationals are trying to snap their three-game losing streak, where they are only 2.3 runs per game. Washington will give the ball to Lester, who is making his third start of the season. In his last start against the Atlanta Braves, the 37-year-old allowed 4 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 walks, and struck out 5 in 5.0 IP. In 11 career games against the Phils, Lester has found success with an 8-1 record and 1.92 ERA. That being said, the Phillies seem like a good play here with Wheeler in a good zone against a middling Nats’ offense.
Player Prop: Jon Lester O4.5 strikeouts (-104)
The easy pitcher player prop pick would be Zack Wheeler over 5.5 strikeouts, which he should cruise past based on his recent outings. However, at -136 odds that is just little bit too much juice for my liking. Therefore, we are going to attack Lester’s strikeout prop at 4.5. In both of his starts this season, the 37-year-old has only gone over 4.5 once. But he’s facing a Phillies’ offense that is averaging 10.08 strikeouts per game and 10.3 Ks in their last three contests.
