The Philadelphia 76ers (47-22) will pay a visit to the Miami Heat (38-31) tonight as both teams have three games left to go in the regular season. The Sixers currently sit on top of the Eastern Conference, ahead of the Nets by 1.5 games with their fate completely in their control. Since they own the tiebreaker over Brooklyn, all Philly needs is one win to lock up first place in the East, and given their recent form that shouldn’t be too big of an ask. They just had an eight-game winning streak snapped with a loss to the Pacers on Tuesday, but they’ll have another opportunity to get back to their winning ways tonight.
The Heat have already clinched an automatic playoff spot, but are fighting for a better seed spot as they’re just a half a game behind the fourth-place Atlanta Hawks. Miami is on a three-game winning streak, going 7-3 in their last 10 outings and hoping to extend that streak to four.
Pick ATS: Heat -2
Both teams will be desperate to win this game as the Sixers are hungry to lock up the top seed, but the Heat will be looking to close the gap on the Hawks. Joel Embiid, who missed Tuesday’s game with a non-COVID illness, is listed as questionable ahead of tonight’s match-up as well which would leave a big hole for the Sixers to fill. Mike Scott got the starting nod at center against the Pacers, but only ended up with three points and four rebounds through 26 minutes played. Dwight Howard also went for 21 minutes but only notched four points and seven rebounds for himself. He should see some increased minutes in Embiid’s absence as well, and it’s very possible that Doc Rivers could elect to rest Embiid for the rest of the season especially if they lock up first place tonight.
Miami is slightly favored in this close affair, returning home from a short trip to the east coast where they knocked off the Celtics in back-to-back games, led by Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler. The fact that the Sixers will most likely be missing Embiid in Miami would be just enough to push the Heat over the edge and grab their first win against Philly all season.
