The 2021 NBA Playoffs get underway on Tuesday, May 18 with the new play-in tournament. The 7-10 seeds in each conference face off to finalize the final two spots in each conference’s eight-team first round. As the playoffs get underway, we’ll be breaking down DraftKings Sportsbook odds for each team to open the tournament and as teams advance through each round.
The Mavericks made things interesting against the Clippers in the first round of last year’s playoffs before falling short. Luka Doncic couldn’t do it all, and the same is true this season. Kristaps Porzingis has missed his fair share of games with knee issues ahead of the playoffs and will need to be in tip-top shape for the postseason if Dallas wants to have a shot at moving on. Sacrificing Seth Curry’s shooting prowess for Josh Richardson’s perimeter defense could come back to bite the Mavericks if Porzingis can’t be a difference-maker in the postseason.
Mavericks odds to win NBA championship, May 17: +5000
Dallas has the sixth-best odds (+2500) to win the Western Conference and the tenth-best odds (+5000) to win the NBA Finals. The Mavericks will have to go through three very good teams to reach the title game, so no series will be easy.
