After an arduous 72-game season in the NBA that started in December, we’ve finally made it to the play-in tournament. The first play-in game will begin at 6:40 p.m. ET on TNT between the Charlotte Hornets and Indiana Pacers. The Hornets come in as the tenth seed, while the Pacers are the ninth seed. Here we are going to break down a few player props for tonight’s game, courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
Doug McDermott over 16.5 points (+100)
With the Pacers dealing a host of injuries and not having Caris LeVert due to health and safety protocols, Indiana will need someone else to step up. Enter Doug McDermott. The former first-round pick is averaging 13.6 points and shooting 53.2% from the field and 38.8% from three-point range this season.
In the Pacers’ last five contests, McBuckets has gone over 16.5 points in four consecutive games. Furthermore, in three games against the Hornets this season, he’s averaging 17.3 points per game. +100 odds that’s too good to pass up in a win or go home spot.
Terry Rozier over 5.5 assists (+118)
Rozier has been a scoring machine this season for the Hornets, averaging 20.4 points per game on 45% shooting from the field. However, he’s been a solid facilitator on the floor as well recording 4.2 assists per game. There will be a lot of attention on LaMelo Ball’s passing ability, but do not sleep on Scary Terry.
The former Celtics guard has gone over 5.5 assists only once in the Hornets’ last five games. But he has had two games of at least five assists over that span of time. It’s a risky play, but you can get good value with Ball’s odds at -167 and De’Vonte Graham’s odds at -155 for assists.
P.J. Washington over 7.5 rebounds (+105)
This might be my favorite prop play on board with tremendous value. If the Hornets want to advance to the next round of the play-in tournament, they must win the rebounding battle against the Pacers, which is easier said than done. P.J. Washington will play a major role in whether this happens or not.
The former first-round pick has gone over 7.5 rebounds in four out of the Hornets’ last five games, averaging 9.4 rebounds per game. Additionally, in three games this season against the Pacers, Washington has gone over his player prop twice.
Justin Holiday over 2.5 three-pointers made (-113)
Since we have majority of Hornets players for our last two props, we are going to end with Justin Holiday’s three-pointers prop. This season, the 3-and-D wing is averaging 10.5 points per game and shooting 38.2% from three-point range on 6.3 attempts per game. Holiday has gone over 2.5 made threes in three out of the Pacers’ last five games.
This is good news for the Indiana as the Hornets have struggled to defend the three-point line, allowing opposing teams to shoot 41.6% from distance in their last three games.
